The Weekend Special - Ludwig II of Bavaria - Death & Legacy
On June 13th. 1886, Ludwig II of Bavaria went for a walk at
Berg Castle near Lake Starnberg.
He was accompanied by doctor Bernhard von Gudden.
von Gudden was the personal physician of King Ludwig II.
Both men were found dead in Lake Starnberg.
Till today their death is a great
mystery.

Ludwig II became a popular figure in literature, movies,
music and even computer games.
- Manga Story in Japan about Ludwig II's love life;
- the Gabriel Knight II game;
- Castle Frankenstein game;
- Swan Lake ballet of Tchaikovsky;
- books: inter alia - my letters from Ludwig II.
But was King Ludwig II irresponsible, insane or mad?
Well I like to end this Weekend Special with some words from
Elisabeth, Empress of Austria and
good friend of Ludwig II of Bavaria:
'The King was not mad; he was just an eccentric living in a world of dreams.
They might have treated him more gently, and thus perhaps spared
him so terrible an end.'
I wish you all a nice Sunday evening and a good start of the Week!
