The Weekend Special - Catherine de' Medici & Château de Chenonceau

In 1547 (she was crowned in 1549), Catherine de' Medici became Queen Consort of
France, although Henry gave her no political influence.
He also gave the Château of Chenonceau, which Catherine
had wanted for herself, to his mistress Diane de Poitiers.
Chenonceau was the center of power.

When Henry II of France died in 1559, Catherine didn't hesitate to exploit her new
authority. She forced Diane de Poitiers to hand over the crown jewels and to return
the Château de Chenonceau to the crown.
