Today in History - December 1st. 1822 - Pedro I was crowned as Emperor of Brazil

On December 1st. 1822, Pedro I was crowned as Emperor of Brazil.
He was nicknamed 'The Liberator'.

Pedro was born in 1798 at the Queluz Royal Palace in  Lisbon. He was a member
of the House of Braganza.

His parents were Dom Juão , later King of Portugal, 
and Carlota Joaquina of Spain.

Pedro married twice. His first wife was Maria Leopoldina of Austria. 
His second wife was  Amélie of Leuchtenberg.

Pedro died on September 24th. 1834 in Lisbon (Portugal).
