Today in History - January 3rd 1777 - Elisa Bonaparte, Grand Duchess of Tuscany
On January 3rd. 1777, Elisa Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, Corsica (France).

Her parents were Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. She was a
younger sister of Napoleon.
In 1797, she married Felice Pasquale Baciocchi. The wedding took place
in Marseille.
In 1805, Napoleon captured Piombino and Lucca (now Italy).
He promoted Elisa as Queen (but only in name).
Later Napoleon offered her the title: Duchess of Tusancy.
Elisa was the only one of Napoleon's sisters who had political power.
The two didn't get along well due to her sharp tongue.

In 1814, Elisa was forced to abdicate.
She died in 1820.
