Court Life - Mechlin - Margaret of Austria

In the 16th. century, Emperor Maximilian I of Austria appointed his daughter
Margaret of Austria as governor of the Netherlands.

She lived in Mechlin, that city became the capital of the Low Countries.
Mechlin (in Dutch: Mechelen) is located now in Belgium.

She also became the guardian of her nephew, the future emperor Charles V.

Her 'reign' brought peace and prosperity for the Low Countries.
