My name is Kathelijne, but nearly everyone calls me Kathleen Van Lierop. I was born, grew up, and still live in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, a city full of unexpected royal connections and history. My love for royal families began in my grandmother’s garden, where she told me long, vivid stories about Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Queen Victoria, Napoleon, and the Belgian royal family. Those afternoons shaped me more than I ever realised.

A Lifelong Fascination for Royals


As a child, I believed royal lives were just like the fairytale scenes on cookie tins. Over the years, I discovered how complex their stories truly are: arranged marriages, political duties, reforms, finances, diplomacy. Behind every palace window stood real people with real challenges.

This curiosity turned into my first “royal database” at age eleven, a handwritten attempt to organise the history of monarchies. That little project has grown into what All About Royal Families is today:
a worldwide blog dedicated to royal history, royal destinations, travel, facts, and stories that connect past and present.

Since 2012, the blog has become a reliable source of inspiration and information for readers around the world.

My Royal Correspondence

Writing handwritten cards to royal families is one of my greatest joys. Receiving a reply, no matter how small, is always a highlight. You can find many of these letters on the Royal Correspondence page of my blog.

The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg, Margarita was born at the Royal Palace in Athens on 18 April 1905.  Family Through her mother, Margarita was the eldest great-great grandchild of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom .
