Royal History
On 4 November 1631, Mary Henrietta Stuart was born at St James’s Palace in London, the daughter of King Charles I of England and Queen Henrietta Maria of France. Through her marriage to William II, Prince of Orange, she became the mother of King William III of England, linking the British and Dutch royal houses for generations.
On 22 November 1918, King Albert I of Belgium and Queen Elisabeth made a triumphant entry into Brussels following the end of the First World War. In a historic address to the nation, King Albert announced sweeping reforms, including universal suffrage, equality of languages, and expanded social legislation, marking a new era of renewal and unity for Belgium. More about this royal event on this link.
On 23 November 1890, King William III of the Netherlands passed away, and his ten-year-old daughter Wilhelmina ascended the throne under the regency of her mother, Queen Emma. This moment ushered in a new chapter for the Dutch monarchy and marked the beginning of Queen Wilhelmina’s long and influential reign.
Finally, on 20 November 1947, Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II, married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, later Duke of Edinburgh, in a moving ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Their union became one of the most enduring royal marriages in modern history, symbolising continuity, duty, and devotion.
