Royal highlights July 2026

Welcome to the July edition of the All About Royal Families Royal Diary, your monthly guide to the most important royal engagements, birthdays, exhibitions, and celebrations from royal families around the world. June 30th - July 3rd: Holyrood Week in Scotland.

July 2nd: NL: His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will attend the gala of the National Ballet, in honour of the farewell of director Ted Brandsen.

July 7th - July 11th: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to come to the United Kingdom. 

July 10th: NL: Her Majesty Queen Máxima will officially open the NN North Sea Jazz Festival at Rotterdam Ahoy on the afternoon of Friday, 10 July. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the festival, with the first edition having taken place fifty years ago.

July 10th: LUX: Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie will visit the municipality of Troisvierges.

July 13 - July 15th: UK: The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence will visit Korea 

July 16 - July 17th: UK: The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence will visit Thailand. In Thailand, they will meet The King & Queen of Thailand,  and pay respect to Queen Sirikit The Queen Mum who died last year

July 17th: King's Birthday in Lesotho, which is a national public holiday honoring King Letsie III.

July 21st: BE: National Day

July 14th – Victoria, The Crown Princess of Sweden.

Royal exhibitions

From July 1st - till August 16th - BE: The Royal Palace of Brussels will open its doors for the public. Reservation is obligated. You can check the dates on this link

From July 22nd - till August 9th - NL: Noordeinde Palace in The Hague open its doors for the public. You can check the date and tickets on this link.   

From July 18th till August 30th 2026: LUX: The official residence of the Grand Duke in Luxembourg City opens its doors for exclusive 75-minute summer tours.

From June 18th - September 25th: MON: Exhibition Grace & Rainier at the Princely Palace of Monaco.

Royal history

July 1st 1961: Diana Spencer was born. She married Charles, then the Prince of Wales. Diana died on August 31st 1997 in Paris. 

July 18th 64 AD: The Great Fire of Rome swept through the city, with ancient legend placing the blame on the decadent Roman Emperor Nero as it burned.

July 28th 1540: It was an eventful day for Henry VIII, who married his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, on the exact same day that his chief minister, Thomas Cromwell, was beheaded on Tower Hill.

July 16th 1557: Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII, died from natural causes.

July 16th 1918: Bolshevik revolutionaries executed Russia's last imperial family, Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanovs, effectively ending a 300-year dynasty.
