August has always been a month of contrasts in the royal calendar. National celebrations, historic anniversaries and royal birthdays continue to offer fascinating moments for royal watchers around the world. This month's Royal Highlights bring together the most notable events and commemorations from across Europe's royal houses and beyond.

August 1st to August 7th: UK: Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight - The Princess Royal will visit some activities of this wonderful Regatta. ⛵

August 5th: UK: The Duchess of Edinburgh Patron, Hallé Concerts Society, will attend a Promenade Concert at The Royal Albert Hall.

August 11th: NL: The Princess of Orange will attend the opening of the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen , Zara Tindall and Infanta Elena of Spain, will atted this event as well 🐎

August 14th: UK: The Duke of Edinburgh The Duchess of Edinburgh Patron, Edinburgh International Festival, and The Duchess of Edinburgh, will attend the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh.

August 21st: SWE: Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will visit Vaasa (🇫🇮) on the occasion of Vaasa Court of Appeal’s 250th anniversary.

August 4th – Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.

August 8th – Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Royal History

August 4, 1900: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) was born.

August 9, 1993: King Albert II took his oath as the sixth King of the Belgians following the sudden death of his brother, King Baudouin.

August 10, 1759: King Ferdinand VI died without an heir, passing the Spanish throne to his half-brother, Charles III.

August 10, 1584: William the Silent, the founding father of the Netherlands and ancestor of the Dutch royal family, was buried in Delft after his assassination

August 17, 1865: King Albert I, the heroic "Soldier King" who led Belgian troops during World War I, was born in Brussels.

August 29, 1935: Queen Astrid, the deeply beloved first wife of King Leopold III, died in a tragic car accident in Küssnacht, Switzerland

August 31, 1880: Queen Wilhelmina, who bravely led the Dutch government-in-exile during World War II, was born in The Hague
