Royal history

The Royal Wedding (November 1926): Exactly 100 years ago this month, Princess Astrid of Sweden officially became part of the Belgian monarchy. She married the future King Leopold III in two separate ceremonies: a civil wedding in Stockholm on 4 November 1926, followed by a massive, highly celebrated religious wedding at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels on 10 November 1926.

The Wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip (20 November 1947): The couple married at Westminster Abbey, bringing a wave of celebration and color to a somber, rationed postwar Britain. It became the longest marriage in British royal history, lasting 73 years.

The Proclamation of King Juan Carlos I (22 November 1975): Just two days after the death of dictator Francisco Franco, Juan Carlos I was proclaimed King of Spain. This pivotal moment marked the official restoration of the Bourbon monarchy and served as the catalyst for Spain's peaceful transition into a modern democracy.

Queen Wilhelmina Inherits the Throne (23 November 1890): Following the death of King Willem III, his 10-year-old daughter Wilhelmina officially became Queen, with her mother Queen Emma ruling as Queen Regent until 1898. This moment also triggered the end of the personal union between the Netherlands and Luxembourg, as Luxembourgish law at the time barred female succession.
