19 february 2021: Count Leopold Lippens died

On 20 October 1941, Leopold Lippens was born as the son of Léon Lippens  and Suzanne Lippens. He was a grandson of Maurice August Lippens.  From 1970 Leopold Lippens entered the local politics of Knokke. From  1979 Leopold Lippens became the mayor of Knokke and Heist.  The Lippens family was original from Moerbeke Waas. Leopold's brother, Maurice was a board member of the Fortis Bank until the crisis of 2008. Leopold himself had the title of Count.  picture taken in Knokke-Heist in 2017 Leopold Lippens died on 19 february 2021 due to leukemia. On this link you  can find a picture of him. 

The Sad Royal History of St. Bavo's Abbey in Ghent

Imperial Interferences  with disastrous consequences In Ghent, the capital of Eastern Flanders in the northern part of Belgium,  there once was a beautiful Abbey called the Saint Bavo's Abbey.  However due to Imperial Interferences, this Abbey was demolished in the 16th. century.  Luckily for us, there still are a few traces from the Saint Bavo's Abbey and it still has a wonderful royal history. Originally the Saint Bavo's Abbey was called Ganda, which meant "river mouth in Celtic" referring to the location of the area.  Louis the Pious , the youngest son of Charlemagne and also King of the  Franks, from 814-840 chose Einhard as abbot of the St. Bavo's Abbey.
