Statue of Queen Victoria in London United Kingdom |
On 24 May 1819, Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom was born.
To read more on this link . This was a fantastic time for the
British Empire. In 1815, almost 4 years ago, Napoleon Bonaparte
was defeated after the Battle of Waterloo. Victoria was a member
of the House of Hanover.
On 20 June 1837, Victoria became Queen of the United Kingdom,
Great Britain and Ireland. During her reign the British Empire
expanded much. She ruled over a quarter of the World Population.
Already when she was a child, King Leopold I of Belgium, Victoria's
uncle made a splendid plan to match his royal niece and his cousin.
It was on 10 October 1839 that Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
visited Windsor Castle and Queen Victoria.
According to Queen Victoria, Albert was incredibly handsome with
very beautiful eyes, a well formed nose, light sideburns. He had a
great figure with broad shoulders and a slim waist.
On 10 February 1840 Queen Victoria married to her first cousin
Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. They had 9 children.
