A card from Lady Pamela Hicks

In December 2024, I received a special royal post card from the United Kingdom. It was a postcard from Lady Pamela Hicks. But who is she actually? How is she related to the Royal Family? Who is Lady Pamela Hicks? Lady Pamela Carmen Louis Hicks, born Mountbatten, was born on 19 April 1929 in Barcelona, Spain. Royal Family Her parents were Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma and his wife Edwina Ashley.  Her paternal grandparents were Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princes Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. The mother of Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine was Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. Princess Victoria was thus a sister of Princess Alexandra, the last Empress of Russia.  Lady Pamela Hicks is thus a niece of Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh. In view of the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, it is interesting to look at the coronations in the past.  This blog post is about the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. A change of date The coronation of Edward VII and his wife, Alexandra, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and as Emperor and Empress of India took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on 9 August 1902. The coronation of George V and his wife Mary as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and as Emperor and Empress of India, took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Thursday 22 June 1911. The Procession The first of three processions left Buckingham Palace at 9:30 am. It consisted of representatives of foreign royal families and governments, carried in fourteen carriages. The second procession had five state landaus for members of the British royal family; the fifth contained the King and Queen's children, the Prince of Wales, Princess Mary and the young Princes Albert, Henry and George.  The third procession brought the officers of state in a further four carriages and the twenty-fifth and final carriage, the Gold State Coach carrying the King and Queen. Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, the future of Bhutan

On 5 February 2016 Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck was born at Lingkana Palace, Thimphu, Bhutan. Family His parents are King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan and his wife, Queen Jetsun Pema. He is a member of the House of Wangchuck.  His name was announced on 16 April 2016. In 2019 he received a younger brother who was named:  Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck, In honor of his birth, 108,000 trees were planted by thousands of volunteers in Bhutan. In 2017, in honor of his first birthday, a new damselfly species was named after the crown prince, Megalestes gyalsey.  Bhutan is oficially known as the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas, located between China and India in the geographical subregion of Southern Asia.  It is a mountainous country. Who is Princess Astrid of Belgium?

On 5 June 1962 Princess Astrid of Belgium was born on the day before her father's 28th birthday at the Château de Belvédère, near Laeken, and was named after her late paternal grandmother, Astrid of Sweden, the popular first wife of King Leopold III.  Her godparents were her uncle Fabrizio, Prince Ruffo di Calabria-Santapau, 7th Duke di Guardia Lombarda, and her aunt Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg. Love and Marriage Princess Astrid married Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este, subsequently head of the Archducal House of Austria-Este, on 22 September 1984 at Brussels. Lorenz is the eldest son of Robert, Archduke of Austria-Este (1915–1996), and his wife Princess Margherita of Savoy-Aosta (1930–2022). Princess Victoria Mary ("May") of Teck was born on 26 May 1867 at Kensington Palace, London, in the same room where Queen Victoria, the cousin of her mother , had been born 48 years and 2 days earlier. Queen Victoria came to visit the baby, writing that she was "a very fine one, with pretty little features and a quantity of hair". Family Her father was Prince Francis, Duke of Teck, the son of Duke Alexander of Württemberg by his morganatic wife, Countess Claudine Rhédey von Kis-Rhéde (created Countess von Hohenstein in the Austrian Empire).
