John I Albert was born on 27 December 1459 in Krakow, Poland. Family He was the son of King Casimir IV of Poland and Elisabeth of Austria. His mother was the daughter of King Albert of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia and was the granddaughter of Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund. Elisabeth of Austria received her education at the court of Emperor Frederick III. John I Albert had lots of siblings inter alia: - Vladislaus II, King of Bohemia and Hungary, - Alexander I, King of Poland, - Sigismund I the Old, King of Poland. Duty In 1490, the Hungarian nobility proclaimed John I Albert as King of Hungary and Bohemia. However he was defeated by his elder brother King Vladislaus II. According to the tradition, angels took her remains to Mount Sinai. Around the year 800, monks from the Sinai Monastery found her remains. The official name of the monastery is: the Sacred Monastery of the God-Trodden Mount Sinai. Now the monastery has become a famous pilgrimage. The National Anthem of the Russian Empire was first performed on 18 December 1833. In 1833, Tsar Nicholas I ruled Russia.  He was the emperor from 1825 till 1855. In 1833, a competition was held to find a proper song to perform for the Tsar. Finally a song was chosen. It was: God Save the Tsar. The composer became Alexei Lvov (since 1828 the aide-de-camp of Tsar Nicholas I). The lyrics were written by the court poet Vasily Zhukovsky. This anthem lasted till the Russian Revolution in 1917, after the 'Workers Marseillaise' was adopted as new anthem.
