Princess Sophie and her husband had 4 children.

Princess Sophie wasn't the most beautiful woman of her time, but she always was dressed with extremely chique clothes and fine jewelry.

In 1853, she became Grand Duchess of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. At the court, culture played an important role. She was close friends to inter alia Hans Christian Andersen.

In October 1892, the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. It was there that Wilhelmina of The Netherlands met her future husband Prince Henry (in Dutch: Hendrik).

Princess Sophie died on March 23rd. 1897 in Weimar (German Empire).

Isn’t interesting that marrying a first cousin was considered quite acceptable in high society. I guess Wilhelmina was Sophie’s niece then? Thank you for another interesting post, Kathleen!
It was very common at that thime to married into family. Princess Sophie was an aunt of Queen Wilhelmina, so the queen was indeed a niece. Thank you so much for your nice comment Vall!
