When Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany asked King Albert I of Belgium a free passage to France in 1914 the Belgian King refused based on a neutrality principle.

King Albert I stated: 'Belgium is not a road' Within four months, the majority of Belgium was under occupation and would remain so until November 1918.

The de Liedekerke family has it all: a long and interesting history and close ties to the rules of their country.  Let's take a closer look!  History It was in 1301 that the history of the family de Liedekerke started. Since 1996, the royal family's head is: Franz, Duke of Bavaria. So far is the situation nowadays but this royal familie has a very nice history.
