Barcelona Cathedral and its great royal history

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia usually known as the
Barcelona Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona in Catalonia,
Spain.

The Barcelona Cathedral is located in the Barrio Gótico, one of the most
popular tourist regions of the city.

It is dedicated to Eulalia of Barcelona, the co-patron saint of Barcelona, who
was a young virgin, who suffered martyrdom during Roman times in the city.
One story says that she was exposed naked in the public square and a
miraculous snowfall in the mid-spring covered her nudity. The body of the
saint is entombed in the cathedral's crypt.

Some royal history


In a document from the Second Council of Barcelona in 599, it states that
the cathedral was dedicated to the Holy Cross. However this church was
damaged by al-Mansur during his attack on Barcelona in 986.

In 1046,  Count Ramon Berenguer I and his wife Almodis and Bishop
Guislabert gave the order of the construction of a Romanesque cathedral at the
site of the old church.

On 1 May 1298, the building works of the present Barcelona Cathedral started.
James II the Just was King of Aragon at that time and Bernat Pelegri was the
Bishop of Barcelona.

The west facade was completed in 1417, the cloister was completed in 1448,
which made the total duration of construction 150 years.

In the late 19th. century, Miguel Girona i Agrafel offered to complete the
neo-Gothic facade. This work was completed in 1913 by Girona's Children.

Golden Fleece

 The choir stalls retain the coat-of-arms of the knights of the Order of the
Golden Fleece. In his first trip to Spain, Charles, the future Holy Roman
Emperor selected Barcelona as the site of a chapter of his Order. The King
arrived for his investure as Count of Barcelona. The city, which had a port
offered the closest communication with the other Habsburg dominions.

Who was Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan?

On 14 May 2022 Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan passed away at the age of 73. Family Khalifa was born on 7 September 1948 at Qasr Al-Muwaiji, Al Ain, in Abu Dhabi (then part of the Trucial States), the eldest son of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Hassa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Education   He was a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Crown Prince When his father, Zayed, became Emir of Abu Dhabi in 1966, Khalifa was appointed the Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi and Head of the Courts Department in Al Ain.
