A lot of bling bling: Chopard
You can never get enough watches even in this modern, digital time.
I'm fond of Swiss watches. I wore Swatch by myself but there are
lots of other magnificent brands such as Chopard.
Besides watches Chopard sells lots of beautiful jewelry such as
necklaces, earrings and of course tiara's.
This brand still has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and it
also has a nice royal history. Due to its lovely history Chopard is
mentioned on this blog.
Some royal history
In 1860, the 24-year old Louis-Ulysse Chopard (1836-1915) founded its
watch manufactory in Sonvilier Switzerland. He specialized himselves
in making ultra-thin, high-precision pocket-watches intended for daily
wear. He traveled across Eastern Europe, Russia and Scandinavia to find
customers. He even became a supplier to Tsar Nicholas II.
In 1904 Karl Scheufele I (1877-1941) bought a company in
Pforzheim, Germany. He invented a special clip to attach a pocket-watch
to the wrist. His son Karl Scheufele II (1907-1966) took over his
father's firm after World War I.
After the death of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, his son Paul-Louis continued to
develop Chopard.
In 1937 the company moved to Geneva, the world capital of
watchmaking. There Paul-André Chopard (1898-1968), the grandson of
Louis-Ulysse carried on the family tradition. However none of his
children wanted to take over the firm.
Karl Scheufele III, the grandson of Karl Scheufele I reached an
agreement with Paul-André Chopard to buy the firm. This took place
in 1976.
During the years, Chopard also produced many wonderful jewelry
often worn by royalty.
In 1988 Chopard started a partnership with the Mille Miglia the
vintage car rally in Italy. They also are sponsors of the Grand Prix of
Monaco.
Ten years later, in 1998, Chopard became an official partner of the
Cannes Film Festival.
Nowadays Chopard still is owned by Caroline Scheufele and
Friedrich Scheufele.
