Royal Destination H么tel de Ville in Paris France
One of the most special places of Paris is the splendid H么tel de Ville
of Paris in France.
Since 1357, in this beautiful building the City of Paris
administration has been located on the same place as it is today.
It is located in the 4th arrondissement near the Rue Rivoli.
Some royal history
In 1533, King Francis I decided to endow the city with a city hall
which would be worth for Paris. Then Paris was without no doubt
the largest city of Europe and Christendom.
King Francis I ordered two architects an Italian and a Frenchman:
- Dominique de Cortone (Italian)
- Pierre Chambidges (French).
The building was created in the amazing Renaissance style.
During the reign of King Louis XIII of France the H么tel de Ville
was finished (1628).
French Revolution
On 14 July 1789, Jacques de Flesselles the provost of the merchants
was murdered by an angry crowd.
Robespierre was shot in the jaw and arrested in the H么tel de Ville
with his followers.
The H么tel de Ville had been the headquarters of the French Revolution
and likewise it was the headquarters of the Paris Commune.
A tragic incident
In 1871 a terrible tragedy happened: the H么tel de Ville was burned
by the Paris Commune, with them the city archives that it contained.
It was rebuilt following the original design, but larger. This took place
between 1874 and 1882.
World War II
On 25 August 1944, during the Liberation of Paris, Charles de Gaulle
gave a speech and he greeted the crowd from a front window of the
H么tel de Ville.
On this beautiful Youtube link, you can hear and see the speech of
Charles de Gaulle at the H么tel de Ville of Paris in France.

A visit
Readers of this blog already know that Town Halls are my favourite
buildings of a city. This one is very special due to its (royal) history.
I visited Paris in 2017, then I could take these pictures.
