Royal highlights of September 2026

September brings the royal families back into the spotlight after the quieter summer weeks, and this year the month begins with a particularly historic moment in Norway.

From King Haakon VIII taking the Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution to the Danish State Visit to Belgium, Prinsjesdag in the Netherlands and the opening of the Swedish parliamentary year, September 2026 promises plenty of royal tradition and ceremony.

Here are some of the royal highlights to watch this September.



Royal Diary


September 1st: NOR: His Majesty King Haakon VIII will take the Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution in the Storting Chamber at 1 pm. 

September 5th: UK: The Braemar Gathering - Held at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park, this premier Highland Games event features pipe bands, highland dancing, and traditional heavy athletics like caber tossing

September 5th: DK: Flag Day, King Frederik and Queen Mary will attend the national Flag Day for Denmark’s Deployed Personnel. They will participate in commemorative events across Kastellet, Holmens Kirke, and Christiansborg Palace Square.

September 6th: NL: On the occasion of the 100th B-day of Prince Claus, King Willem-Alexander, Former Queen Beatrix and Prince Constantijn of The Netherlands will visit Hitzacker in Germany.

September 6th: MON: Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, and their twins, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, will headline the traditional end-of-summer picnic at Princess Antoinette Park. 

September 7th: SPA: Princess Leonor will formally begin studying Political Science at the Carlos III University of Madrid. 

September 8th: SWE: Opening of the Parliamentary Session - King Carl XVI Gustaf will formally open the new parliamentary year at the Riksdag building in Stockholm

September 9th: NOR: Funeral of King Harald V of Norway. 

September 12th: UK: Last Night of the Proms.

September 15th: NL: Prince's Day in The Hague. 

September 16th - September 20th: LUX: The 86th Škoda Tour de Luxembourg cycling race

September 17th: NL: King Willem-Alexander will re-open the castle Huis Bergh in ’s-Heerenberg after extensive restauration works.

September 23rd - 26th: MON: Prince Albert II will provide his official High Patronage to the 35th Monaco Yacht Show at Port Hercule.

September 23rd:SAU: National day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It's a public holiday. 

September 26th: MON: The Grand Ball of Princes and Princesses - Held under the formal High Patronage of Prince Albert II, senior royals are expected to attend this glamorous "Sail into Royalty" themed ball at Sporting Monte-Carlo. The gala serves as a fundraising pillar for the Prince’s chosen pediatric and children-in-care charities

September 29th - September 30th: LUX: A State Visit from Finnland to Luxemburg will take place.

September 2nd  – Archduchess Alix of Austria-Este.

September 6th – Archduke Maximilian of Austria-Este.

September 6th - Prince Hisahito of Akishino celebrates his 20th birthday (Japan). 

September 9th – Princess Elisabetta of Belgium, Archduchess of Austria-Este.

September 11th – Queen Paola of Belgium.

September 12th – Princess Iman of Iran.

September 15th – Harry, The Duke of Sussex.

September 15th – Letizia, The Queen of Spain.

September 15th – Prince Daniel of Sweden.

September 17th – Marie-Chantal, The Crown Princess of Greece.

September 21st – Prince Noah of Nassau.

September 22nd – Princess Märtha Louise of Norway.

September 26th – Archduke Alexander of Austria.

September 27th – Princess Iman of Jordan.

September 30th – Princess Marie-Esmeralda of Belgium.


Royal wedding anniversaries


September 21st – Margaretha, Custodian of The Crown of Romania and Prince Radu of Romania

September 22nd – Prince Lorenz and Princess Astrid of Belgium, The Archduke and Archduchess of Austria-Este.

September 19th - December 13th: Biennale de Lyon in France.

Untill September 26th: MON: "Wedding of the Century" exhibition, at the State Apartments of the Prince's Palace of Monaco.
