Many reining monarchs have special Christmas traditions. One of them is the  yearly Christmas Speech. In the United Kingdom the first Christmas Broadcast was delivered by George V  in 1932 and since then has evolved into an important part of the Christmas Day celebrations for many in Britain and around the world. Each Broadcast carefully reflects current issues and concerns, and shares The Monarch's reflections on what Christmas means to them and their listeners. Over the years, the Christmas Broadcast has acted as a chronicle of global, national and personal events which have affected the Monarch and their audience.  King George V's eldest son and the new king, Edward VIII, never delivered a Christmas Broadcast, as his reign lasted less than a year. Christmas day was in ancient times a popular day for lavish coronation ceremonies. On 25 December 800 Charlemagne was crowned Roman Emperor in the Old St. Peter's Basilica in Rome by Pope Leo III. In 1076, Boleslaw II of Poland was crowned at the Gniezno Cathedral in Poland. In 1100 Baldwin I became King of Jerusalem. The ceremony took place at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. In 1130 the coronation of Roger II, King of Sicily took place in Palermo. On this day, it was not always party and fun with those coronations. One Emperor lost his throne on 25 December 820. It was Leo V of the B
