Since Queen Margrethe II of Denmark announced her abdication, I had the idea to write a post about the family ties between the royal families of Denmark and Belgium. The current King of Belgium, is King Philippe. Is he related to Queen Margrethe of Denmark and how? Duchess Maria Dorothea of Württemberg, mother of a queen

1 November 1797 marks the birth of Duchess Maria Dorothea of Württemberg. This took place in Pokoj, a village nowadays located in southern Poland. Family Duchess Maria Dorothea of Württemberg was the eldest daughter of Duke Louis of Württemberg (1756–1817) and Princess Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg (1780–1857). She was a member of the House of Württemberg . Her brother Alexander was the grandfather of Mary of Teck , the future queen consort of George V of the United Kingdom. Due to her family and her marriage she had some lovely family ties. Love and marriage She was the third wife of Archduke Joseph, Palatine of Hungary, to whom she was married on 24 August 1819. They had following children: - Archduchess Franziska Marie - Archduke Alexander - Archduchess Elisabeth Franziska - Archduke Joseph Karl - Marie Henriette , who was due to her marriage Queen of the Belgians  Death She dies on March 30th. 1855 in Pest, Hungary. 

On This Day - October 26th. 1714 - Princess Marie Victoire d'Arenberg

Princess Marie Victoire of Arenberg was born on October 26th. 1714 in Brussels as the eldest daughter of Léopold Philippe, Duke of Arenberg and Maria Ludovica Francesca Pignatelli. The  noble house of Arenberg Marie Victoire was a member of the House of Arenberg, an aristocratic lineage who took their name from Arenberg, a small territory of the Holy Roman Empire in the Eifel Region. The current head of the house bears the title Duke of Arenberg, while all other members are princes or princesses. They were all styled of Serene Highness. 10 January 2005 Princess Joséphine Charlotte of Belgium Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

Princess Joséphine Charlotte of Belgium was born on October 11th. 1927 in the Royal Palace of Brussels. She was the eldest sister of inter alia King Baudouin of Belgium and King Albert II of Belgium (who abdicated in 2013 in favour of his son  King Philippe). In 1953, she married Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg (then Prince Jean). The Royal Couple had five children. Now her eldest son, Henri, is  Grand Duke of Luxembourg. So, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg is the first cousin of King Philippe of Belgium. Princess Joséphine suffered Lung Cancer and died at home on January 10th. 2005.
