abdicated and Germany became
a Republic.

In 1918, nearly at the end of World War I,
Emperor Wilhelm II wasn't popular at all.

Chancellor Prince Max of Baden asked him very politely
to abdicate to save the monarchy. Wilhelm II refused to abdicate.
