Today in History - February 2nd. 1660 - Gaston, Duke of Orléans (France)

On April 25th. 1608, Gaston Jean-Baptiste de France was born in the
Palace of Fontainebleau near Paris.

His parents were King Henry IV of France and Marie de Medici.
As son of a King he was called a 'Fils de France'.

His elder brother became King Louis XIII of France.
He had a younger sister Henrietta Maria who became
Queen Consort of England.

Gaston, Duke of Orléans married twice.
He first married Marie de Bourbon.
He secondly married Marguerite of Lorraine.

Gaston had 6 legal children (1 with Marie de Bourbon and 
5 with Marguerite of Lorraine). He also had some illegitimate children.

Gaston, Duke of Orléans died on February 2nd. 1660 in 
Château de Blois.
