Charles Francis (in German: Karl Franz) was born on June 3rd. 1540 in Vienna (Austria).

His parents were Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor and
Anna of Bohemia and Hungary.

There were negotiations for a marriage between Charles II, Archduke of Austria and
Eizabeth I of England. This negotiations came not to a good end because of inter alia
the difference in religion.

On August 26th. 1571 he married Maria Anna of Bavaria in Vienna.
They had 15 children.

On July 10th. 1590 Charles II, Archduke of Austria died in Graz.
He is buried in Seckau.
