The On This Day Picture

The picture on top of this blog post was taken in Lisbon, Portugal in 2017.
It attracked my attention immediately. I was curious why the Portuguese
honoured an Englishman as William Carr Beresford.

Nowadays I finally know why. No wonder that such an army leader as
Beresford, who allied with Portugal against Napoleon Bonaparte
still is mentioned in Lisbon.

This is really interesting and he is a person of renown that I have never heard of before. We visited Bedgebury earlier this year, which is what first drew my interest to the article, but I am really interested in the Napoleonic era as well and have been reading a number of books about the period.
thank you very much for reading and for commenting. On this blog, you'll find a lot about Napoleon Bonaparte. The era is a very interesting period with interesting people.
