The  House of Mecklenburg The House of Mecklenburg is a North German dynasty of Slavic origin which ruled until 1918 in the Mecklenburg region. This was one of the longest-ruling families of Europe.  History The family was established by Pribislav, a Slavic prince who converted to Christianity and accepted the suzerainty of Saxon Duke Henri the Lion. The main branch of the house was elevated in 1347 to ducal rank. In the family there were several branches: - Duchy of Mecklenburg; - Lordship of Rostock; - Principality of Schwerin; - County of Schwerin; - Principality of Ratzenburg; - Lordship of Stargard; - Principality of Wenden. Who was Prince Frederick of Great Britain?

On 13 May 1750, Prince Frederick of Great Britain was born as a son of  Frederick, Prince of Wales and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Coburg. He was a member of the House of Hanover.  On 17 June 1750, Prince Frederick of Great Britain was christened. His godparents were: - Prince George, his brother who became later King George III;  - Prince Wilhelm of Saxe-Coburg, his maternal uncle; - Princess Augusta, his sister.  Prince Frederick of Great Britain was intelligent and he read a lot of books, but he had a bad health. 28 May 1660: Birth of George I of Great Britain

On 28 May 1660, the birth of George Louis (in German: Georg Ludwig) took place in the city of Hanover in the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg in the Holy Roman Empire. Family His parents were Ernest August, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Sophia of the Palatinate. Sophia was the granddaughter of King James of I of England, through her mother, Elizabeth of Bohemia. In letters, Sophia describes George as a responsible child who set an example to his younger brothers and sisters. George's father took him hunting and riding and introduced him to military matters, mindful of his uncertain future, Ernest August took the then 15 year old George on campaign in the Franco-Dutch War for testing and training his son in battle. Love and marriage In 1682, George married his first cousin, Sophia Dorothea of Celle. George Frederick Alexander Charles Ernest Augustus was born on May 27th. 1819 in Berlin. George V of Hanover - Source picture: Wikipedia His godparents were inter alia Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia and Wilhelmina of Prussia, Queen Consort of the Netherlands  (first wife of King William I). On  February 18th. 1843, George V married Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg. They had 3 children.  On November 18th. 1851, he became King of Hanover. He also was a member of the Peerage of Great)Britain and the Peerage of Ireland. In June 1878, George died in his residence in Paris. He was buried in the chapel at Windsor Castle.
