The Summer exhibition of 2019 at the Royal Palace in Brussels

On 16 August 2019, my husband and I went to the 2019's Summer  exhibition of the Royal Palace in Brussels.  For us, it is a yearly tradition to visit the Royal Palace in Brussels during the opening in the summer months. King Leopold I of Belgium and an English uniform This year there are 2 special exhibitons. 1/ Royally adorned. Royal uniforms This is about the costumes and uniforms of the former Kings and present King of the Royal Family of Belgium. This is an exhibition in collaboration with the War Herritage Institute. 2/ The moon: between dream and reality Is a special exhibition which gives an original version about art and science. It is a collaboration of 10 scientific institutes. King Baudouin of Belgium, Prince Albert (now King Albert) and Prince Philippe (now King Philippe) Besides these two interesting exhibitions there also is a part of Technopolis, a To-Do to practice basic physics mechanisms, which always is interesti

Today in History - December 10th. 1865 - Death of Leopold I of Belgium

December 16th. 1790 marks the birth of a very notable boy called: Leopold Georg Christian Friedrich of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Leopold I of Belgium own picture taken in the Royal Palace of Brussels His parents had been Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Augusta Reuss-Ebersdorf. On May 2nd. 1816  Leopold married Charlotte, Princess of Wales.  This marriage was very happy and loving untill fate stuck.  On November 5th. 1817, Charlotte gave birth to a stillborn son. She died the day after. July 21 st. 1831 also was an important day for Leopold. Then he laid off the oath as first King of Belgium. On August 9th 1832 Leopold married Princess Louise of Orléans (daughter of the French King Louis Philippe I). They had 4 children. As King, Leopold was involved with major projects in Belgium. In 1835 for example there was the opening of the railway between Brussels and Mechelen. Due to his European connections and his diplomatic skills,
