The Royal History World has had many events which took place on March 20. Of course, as always, the Allaboutroyalfamiliesblog selected the finest ones. Abdication King Ludwig I of Bavaria (now located in Germany) abdicated on 20 March 1848 in favour of his son Maximilian (who became Maximilian II of Bavaria). King Ludwig I reigned from 13 October 1825. He was a member of the House of Wittelsbach. He died on 29 February 1868 in Nice, France. Births On 20 March 1469, Cecily of York was born at Westminster Palace in London. Her parents were King Edward IV of England and Elisabeth Woodville. Cecily was a member of the House of York. She died on 24 August 1507 on the Isle of Wight. Abdul Hamid I was born on 20 March 1725 in Constantinople in the Ottoman Empire. He became Sultan from 1774 to 1789. Prince William was born at St Mary's Hospital, London on 21 June 1982 as the first child of Charles, Prince of Wales (heir apparent to Queen Elizabeth II) and Diana, Princess of Wales. His name His names, William Arthur Philip Louis, were announced by Buckingham Palace on 28 June. OTD 27 October 1312 Death of John II, Duke of Brabant

On September 27th. 1275 a very noble boy was born: John of Brabant also called the Peaceful. John II, Duke of Brabant - Source picture: Wikipedia He was the son of John I of Brabant and Margaretha of Flanders, a daughter of Guy of Dampierre (famous from the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302). In 1294 John succeeded his father as Duke of Brabant. During his reign, he could stop the French expansion but he tried to conquer South Holland, plans which weren't successful.  On July 8th. 1290 he married Margaret Plantagenet in Westminster Abbey in London. She was the daughter of King Edward I of England and Eleanor of Castille. They had one son, who became later John III, Duke of Brabant.   On October 27th. 1312 John II died due to kidney stones. Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading  on 9 January 1982 into an upper-middle-class family. She was baptised at St Andrew's Bradfield, a local parish church, on 20 June 1982. In view of the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, it is interesting to look at the coronations in the past. This blog post is about the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. A change of date The coronation of Edward VII and his wife, Alexandra, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and as Emperor and Empress of India took place at Westminster Abbey,  London, on 9 August 1902. The turbulent life of Henrietta Maria of France, Queen of England

Recently I read a splendid book "My Queen, My Love: A Novel of Henrietta Maria" written by Elena Maria Vidal about Henrietta Maria of France. Who was she? Who was this French princess who became Queen of England?  So, time to make up another Royal History post. Family Henrietta Maria was born on 25 November 1609 in the Louvre Palace in Paris.  Her parents were Henry IV of France and Marie de' Medici. She was thus a member of the House of Bourbon. Of course Henriette Maria had other siblings. Among them were  King Louis XIII of France and Elisabeth, who became Queen of Spain. Henrietta Maria was trained, along with her sisters, in riding, dancing, and singing, and took part in court plays. Although tutored in reading and writing, she was not known for her academic skills.  As part of her religious training, the princess was heavily influenced by the Carmelites at the French court.  By 1622, Henrietta Maria was living in Paris with a household of some 200 staff, and marr
