Today in History - December 6th. 343 - Saint Nicholas of Myra
On December 6th. 343, Saint Nicholas of Myra died.
He was a Greek Bishop and Saint.
Nowadays, Myra is located in Turkey.
There he had the reputation of a secret gift giver.
Saint Nicholas putted coins in shoes of those who left them for him.
Saint Nicholas became the model for Santa Claus and in Dutch 'Sinterklaas'.
Today is his Feast Day. All the 'good children' have received a gift :-)

Sinterclaes in Amsterdam, The Netherlands |
Saint Nicholas is the patron of Amsterdam (capital of The Netherlands).
And my hometown in Belgium is called Sint-Niklaas (after the saint).
