His parents were Prince Philippe, Count of Flanders and
Princess Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
In 1900, Albert I married Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria.

The marriage took place in Munich (Germany). Elisabeth was the daughter of
Karl-Theodor, Duke in Bavaria and Infanta Maria Josepha of Portugal. Her father
was the brother of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi).
Albert I and Elisabeth had 3 children:
Leopold (Later King Leopold III of Belgium).
Charles (Later Regent of Belgium).
Marie-José (Later the last Queen of Italy).
Albert I died on February 17th. 1934 in Marche-les-Dames in Belgium.
He fell, while climbing a rock. His death shocked the world.
He was deeply mourned in Belgium as abroad.
There also were various speculations about his death.
Each year on February 17th. - as a remembrance of his death - the flag
of Belgium on the Town Hall in Sint-Niklaas hangs half mast. This is
