Frederick (in German: Friedrich) was born in 1175 (the exact date is unknown).

His parents were Duke Leopold V of Austria and Helena of Hungary.

In the late spring of 1197 he joined the German cruisade led by Emperor
Henry VI with Wolfger of Erla, Bishop of Passau. 

Frederick died while returning from Palestine on April 16th. 1198.
He was sometimes called Frederick 'The Catholic'.
