Friedrich von Amerling was born on April 14th. 1803 in Vienna as the son of
Franz Amerling and Theresia Kargl.
First he studied in the Academy of the Arts in Vienna from 1815 till 1824. Later
Friedrich traveled inter alia to Prague, London, Italy, The Netherlands, Munich,
Spain, Greece, Norway and Egypt.
Between 1835 and 1880 Friedrich Amerling was a painter at the Court of
Emperor Franz Joseph. He became one of the most outstanding Austrian
portrait painters.
Friedrich von Amerling received many honors and he had his own post
stamp (after his death).
He died on January 14th. 1887.
