Till Eulenspiegel was a famous personage from a Middle Low German
folklore.

In 1867 Charles De Coster wrote a Dutch novel from this famous personage.
He made an hero and translated Till Eulenspiegel to Tijl Uilenspiegel.
Indeed in the novel, the naughty boy cheated the Spanish Overlords.

According to the novel, Tijl Uilenspiegel was born in Damme, a small and
lovely town near Bruges (located in the Flemish part of Belgium).

There are a lot of traces from this legend in Damme, which became very
popular.
