In 1834 Joseph succeeded his father as Duke of Saxe-Altenburg.
He implemented several buildings in Altenburg but he didn't like
to reform. This was the main reason that Joseph was forced to
abdicate during the civil revolution of 1848. After his abdication
he lived in Schloss Fröhliche Wiederkunft in Wolfersdorf.
Joseph died on November 25th. 1868.
