On 2 February 1943, Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy was born in
Naples, Italy.
Family
Her parents were King Umberto II and Queen Marie -José, the last
King and Queen of Italy.
Her paternal grandparents were Victor Emmanuel III and Princess
Elena of Montenegro.
Her maternal grandparents were King Albert I of Belgium and
Queen Elisabeth (Duchess Elisabeth of Bavaria).
Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy is thus a member of the noble
house of Savoy.
Life
Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy was the fourth and last child of
then the Prince and Princess of Piedmont. In her family she is
known as 'Titi'.
When she only was three years old, her father ruled Italy as
Umberto II, for slightly over a month, from 9 May 1946 till
12 June 1946.
Later the family was exiled, they briefly gathered in Portugal,
where her parents decided to separate. She and her siblings went
together with her mother to Switzerland, while their father
remained in the Portuguese Riviera.
Love and Marriage
In 1967, Princess Maria Beatrice attempted to marry an Italian
actor Maurizio Arena but this was prevented by her family, they
even filed a lawsuit claiming that she was mentally unfit to marry.
On 1 April 1970 Titi finally married Luis Rafael Reyna-Corvalán y
Dillon in Mexico. They were also married in a religious ceremony
in January 1971 in Córdoba, Argentina. They separated in 1995
and they were divorced in 1998.
However the couple had three children:
- Rafael Humberto Lupo;
- Patrizio (who died shortly after birth);
- Azaea Beatrice.
Later
For a while, former Queen Marie-José lived with Titi and her children
in Mexico.
Titi's eldest son , Rafael Humberto Lupo, died at the age of 23 in
Boston, falling from the terrace of the building where he lived.
On 17 February 1999, her ex-husband was murdered in Cuernavaca,
Mexico. The Italian Princess did not attend his funeral.
In Belgium and I guess in Europe and the world, there is less known
about this princess, thouh she belongs to the high nobility of the
gotha through the family ties of her father and
through her mother as well.
