Today in History - September 30th. 1399 - Henry IV became King of England

On September 30th. 1399, Henry IV became King of England and Lord of Ireland . He reigned till 1413. Picture: Henry IV Coronation - Source Wikipedia Henry IV was born on April 15th. 1367 in Bolingbroke Castle. His parents were John of Gaunt, 1st. Duke of Lancaster and Blanche of Lancaster. Henry IV was a member of the House of Plantagenet. In this House there where 4 distinct Royal Families: Angevins; Plantagenet; Lancaster; York. Henry IV belonged to the  Royal Family of Lancaster. Henry IV married twice: - Mary de Bohun and - Joan of Navarre. He died on March 20th. 1413 in London. He was not buried in Westminster Abbey but in the Canterbury Cathedral.

Mon Repos is a classy villa located in Corfu Town with a large importance in Royal History. Mon Repos was ordered by the English commissioner Thomas Maitland and his Greek wife. On September 17th.1322, Robert III of Flanders died. Robert III has several names: Robert of Béthune; and The Lion of Flanders. Nowadays the Lion of Flanders is a symbol of the Flemish nationalism. Family His parents were Guy of Dampierre and Matilda of Béthune. Love and Marriage Robert married twice. 1/ Blanche of Sicily, the daughter of Charles I of Sicily and Beatrice of Provence. They had one son, Charles, who died young. 2/ Yolande II, Countess of Nevers, daughter of Odo Count of Nevers. They had 5 children. Duty In 1299 his father passed the reign over Flanders to Robert III during his war with King Philip IV of France. In May 1300 both father and son were taken captive by the French. However they were released in 1305. On 11 July 1302, the famous Battle of the Golden Spurs took place, however unlike what's told in the popular roman of Hendrik Conscience, Robert III wasn't at the Battlefield because he was taken captive by the French. On September 13th. 1916, Roald Dahl, one of my favorite childhood writers was born. Besides that, he also was a British novelist, a short story writer, a poet, a screenwriter and a even a fighting pilot. During World War II, Dahl served as pilot with the Royal Air Force. Own picture of a Roald Dahl Short Story book From Roald Dahl's books, 250 milion copies have sold worldwide. His most famous (and my favorite) works are inter alia: James and the Giant Peach; Charly and the Chocolate Factory; Mathilda; The Witches; etc... Roald Dahl died on November 23rd. 1990.

Cape Verde is a group of islands located in the Atlantic Ocean before the coast of Western Africa. The islands are officially called the Republic of Cape Verde. In 1975 Cape Verde became independent of Portugal. They celebrate today their National Day. Unfortunately during our visit there was a huge sand storm. Andrew Moay died due to his wounds of the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
