OTD 5 July 1975 Independence Cape Verde

One day after the celebration of Independence day in the United States of America, a public Holiday takes place in Cape Verde. Cape Verde is an island country located in the Atlantic Ocean that consists about 10 vulcano isles. On 5 July 1975 Cape Verde became independent from Portugal. Today in History - July 5th. 1547 - Garzia de'Medici

de' Medici family really fascinates me, but this blogpost is one of their tragic stories in History. July 5th. 1547 marks the birth of Garzia de' Medici, son of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany and Eleonora di Toledo. Garzia de' Medici Painting made by Angelo Bronzini - Source picture: Wikipedia In 1562 Garzia accompanied his parents and brothers at the Tuscan coast to embark for Spain.  Unfortunately during that trip the family contracted malaria. Garzia died on December 6th. 1562.

Belgian Royal Wedding in Rome - Italy

Tomorrow Prince Amedeo of Belgium will marry Elisabetta 'Lily' Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein in Rome (Italy). He is the son of Princess Astrid of Belgium and Prince Lorenz of Belgium, Archduke of Austria-Este. His maternal grandparents are King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium. She is the daughter of an Italian film producer Etorre Rosboch von Wolkenstein and his wife countess Lilla de Smecchia (also a film producer). The young couple lived for a long time in New York. On next link you can see a picture of the couple. Their wedding will take place in the beautiful and historical district of Rome. They have chosen the Basilica  Santa Maria in Trastevere . OTD 4 July 1801 - Infanta Isabel Maria of Portugal

The birth of Infanta Isabel Maria of Portugal took place on 4 July 1801 @ the Queluz National Palace. She was the daughter of John VI of Portugal and Carlotta Joaquin of Spain. Isabel Maria of Portugal in national colors - Source picture: Wikipedia Isabel Maria played an important role in the politics of Portugal because she was chosen as regent of the Kingdom.  She stayed regent until Pedro VI of Portugal (who became emperor Pedro I of Brazil) returned. In 1828 Isabel Maria finished as regent due to a civil war between two possible heirs to the throne. She withdrew from politics and dedicated her life to religion. Infanta Isabel Maria died unmarried on April 22nd. 1876 in Benfica  (Kingdom of Portugal).
