OTD 5 August 1828 Louise of The Netherlands

Louise of The Netherlands was born on August 5th. 1828 in The Hague. Her parents were Prince Frederick of The Netherlands and Princess Louise of Prussia. Louise of The Netherlands - Source picture: Wikipedia On June 19th. 1850 Louise married Crown Prince Charles of Sweden and Norway. They had two children but the marriage wasn't that happy. He took several mistresses and she was shy and not very social.  Her hobbies were music and history. She also coloured bible pictures.  On July 8th. 1859 Louise became Queen Consort of Sweden and Norway but she didn't interfere with politics. Louise died on March 30th. 1872 in Stockholm (Sweden).

Inter alia the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the ceremonies.

Today in History - August 3rd. 1817 - Albrecht, Duke of Teschen

Archduke Albrecht of Austria was born on August 3rd. 1817 in Vienna. Archduke Albrecht of Austria, Duke of Teschen - Source picture: Wikipedia His father Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen (who defeated Napoleon @ Aspern), was a son of Emperor Leopold II.   Albrecht's mother was Princess Henrietta of Nassau-Weilburg. From an early age, Albrecht entered the army where Joseph Radetzky was a military governor. The young archduke distinguished himself in several battles. He recieved some medals inter alia one from King William (Willem) III of The Netherlands. On May 1st. 1844 he married Princess Hildegard of Bavaria (daughter of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen). They had 3 children, 2 of them died very young. On August 2nd. 1762, Johann Jacob Scheucher was born in Zürich (Switzerland). The young man got the chance to study @ some remarkable schools and universities in Europe like the University of Utrecht where he finished his degree in medicine. Source picture: Wikipedia Johann Jacob Scheucher became one of the most important scientists of his time. Tsar Peter the Great of Russia offered him a position @ court, which he refused. The scientist wrote several books.
