OTD 5 September 1869 Archduchess Karoline Marie of Austria

In Altmünster (Upper Austria) a new Archduchess was born. She got the name: Archduchess Karoline Marie of Austria. Archduchess Karoline Marie of Austria - Source picture: Wikipedia Her parents were Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria and Princess Maria Immaculata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. Through her birth, Karoline Marie was an Archduchess and Princess of Austria, Princess of Hungary, Bohemia and Tuscany. On May 30th. 1894, Archduchess Karoline Marie married Prince August Leopold of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, member of the Koháry Branch. They had 8 children together. Archduchess Karoline Marie of Austria died on May 12th. 1945 in Budapest (Hungary). 

OTD 4 September 1199 Joan of England Queen of Sicily

Joan of England was born in October 1165 as the seventh child of Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitane. Joan of England - Source picture: Wikipedia Joan spent her youth at the Courts of her mother at Winchester and Poitiers. In 1176, William II of Sicily asked Joan's hand to marry her. After a very difficult voyage she arrived in Sicily (Italy). In Palermo Joan married William and she was crowned Queen on February 13th. 1177. Unfortunately her husband died in 1189. Then she  was prisoner of the new King, Tancred of Sicily. In 1190 Joan's brother, King Richard I of England returned from his crusade. He asked for her return at Tancred but the King of Sicily refused. Finally Richard I of England attacked the city of Messina and Tancred agreed the return of Joan.  In October 1196 Joan married Raymond VII of Toulouse at Rouen (France). And then something strange happened. Pregnant and married, Joan asked to be admitted to Fontevrau

OTD 3 September 1851 Olga Constantinovna of Russia, Queen Consort of Greece

Olga Constantinovna of Russia was born on September 3rd. 1851 in Pavlovsk. Olga Constantinovna of Russia - Source picture: Wikipedia Her parents were Grand Duke Constantine of Russia and Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. In 1863 King George I of Greece visited Tsar Alexander II and his sister Dagmar, who married the later Tsar Alexander III and who took the name Maria Feodorovna. Initially it was a political match, but Olga and King George I of Greece fell in love with each other. However Grand Duchess Olga was afraid to leave Russia. Olga Constantinovna and King George I of Greece married in the Chapel of the Winter Palace in St.Petersburg on October 27th. 1867. The wedding caused a lot of festivities (5 days long!). They were a good couple and had 8 children together, who grew up in a warm atmosphere.  In her new country, Greece, Olga founded some hospitals. My tree Tuesday picture of this week is taken in Salzburg (Austria) during our holiday in 2012. Salzburg Austria On the picture you see trees and a statue of people who play music. That's the link with one of the most notable man who was born in Salzburg in 1756.  Of course, I talk about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  On next link you can listen to one of his most famous works: The magic flute. OTD 1 September 1878 Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

On September 1st. 1878 a young girl was born in Rosenau Castle in Coburg (Germany). She received the long name: Princess Alexandra Louise Olga Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha- Source picture: Wikipedia Her parents were Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha  (second eldest son of Queen Victoria) and  Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia (daughter of Tsar Alexander II of Russia and Marie of Hesse and by Rhine). Princess Alexandra was nicknamed Sandra in her family. She spent her childhood first in England and Malta where her father served in the Royal Navy. Throughout her life, Princess Alexandra was overshadowed by her two eldest sisters  (Marie and Victoria) and her mother who wanted that her daughters married  very young, which Queen Victoria complained. She married on April 20th. 1896 Prince Ernst of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.  They had 5 children.  Princess Alexandra spent the rest of her
