His parents were Adolf Frederick of Sweden and Louisa Ulrika of Prussia. Charles XIII of Sweden was a  member of the House of Holstein-Gottorp. Events On 5 February 1818, Charles XIV John (born on 26 January 1873 - died on 8 March 1844)  became King of Sweden and Norway. He was born as Jean Bernadotte.
