Coronation Day

Image
Coronation day is finally there! On 6 May 2023, a historic event took place: the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. 👀 How to watch the coronation?  Check it on BBC on this link . You can even follow the coronation on Youtube. See this link .  Happy Coronation day!  Their Majesties are underway in a procession screenshots The King and his crown! The King and Queen are crowned After the service in Westminster Abbey there was a lovely procession to  Buckingham Palace. At Buckingham Palace we got a view of the gardens and all the regiments bringing a salute to their Majesties.  Later King Charles III and Queen Camilla appeared on the balcony of Buckingham  Palace, just as the rest of the working royals and the fly past took place.  It really was a very well organized event and it felt if we all were a part of living history.  I received on 24 August 2023 a special postcard  Screenshots BBC

HRH: so many thoughts on royal style

Image
When I had the chance to choose a free book via Booktasters, my eyes immediately fell on this copy: "HRH so many thoughts on royal style" written by Elizabeth Holmes. I must say, I really enjoyed the book, reading it was a pleasure! It contains so many lovely and beautiful pictures and the more it was very positive about the royals. It had nothing to do with sensation. It also was written very well and the chapters were chronological. So, I'm happy this book is a part of my royal book collection. If you like royal  fashion this is a must read. "HRH so many thoughts on royal style" was released in November 2020 and has 327 pages. The author Elizabeth Holmes (born 1980) is an American writer and journalist based in san Francisco California. Known for her coverage of British  royal style and fashion. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Town & Country, Real Simple and InStyle. "HRH: So many Thoughts on royal Style" made the New York Times best

The State Opening of Parliament formally marks the beginning of a session of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.  Queen Victoria at the State Opening of Parliament Source picture: Wikipedia It includes a speech from the throne known as the Queen's Speech (or King's Speech). The event takes place in the House of Lords chamber on the first day of a new session, which is usually in May or June, and traditionally in November, but can occur at any time of year depending on the timing of General Elections and parliamentary session start dates.  It takes place in front of both Houses of Parliament. Books on Sunday: Buckingham Palace: A Royal Garden

Image
Buckingham Palace is without no doubt one of the most iconic buildings of London and the symbol of the British monarchy.  This book is not about the palace itself or the events that happened there but it's, what me interested the most: its gardens.  Normally it's hidden from sight as it is The Queen's private Londen garden. However the garden also fulfils many roles. Every summer it welcomes thousands of guests for the famous Garden Parties.  Buckinham Palace - A Royal Garden is a wonderful book from the Royal Collection  Trust and written by Claire Masset.  The book The book features wonderful pictures and fatastic ideas to implement at your garden or balcony at home.  The chapters are devided in the seasons of the year: spring, summer, autumn and  of course winter with lots of fantastic hints. It also tells about the history of Buckingham Palace: A Royal Garden, when  King George III and Queen Charlotte turned parts of the garden to pasture.  And it reveals which garden f

22 June 1868: The First Garden Party

Image
On 22 June 1868, queen Victoria hosted the first ever Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.  Of course, she mentioned this special event in her diary:  "The afternoon splendid & not too hot." "Quantities of people on the lawn who I had to recognise as I went along." Despite her anxiety the day was a resounding success. It was recorded in  The Illustrated London News.  Two particularly lavish Garden Parties were held to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1887 and 1897. Books on Sunday : The other side of the coin

Angela Kelly has worked with The Queen and walked the corridors of the Royal Household for 25 years, initially as Her Majesty's Senior Dresser and later as Her Majesty's Personal Adivsor and Curator (The Queen's Juwellery, Insignias and Wardrobe) and In-house Designer. The Queen even gave Angela her blessing to share their extraordinary bond with the world. This was written down in the book: The other side of the coin. Queen Elizabeth II Elizabeth Alexandra was born on 21 April 1926 as the eldest daughter of the Duke of York and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.  On 6 February 1952 she became Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth Realms. She is perhaps one of the most powerful women on earth.  My review In "the other side of the coin" tells Angela Kelly about her time as  Her Majesty's senior dresser and her other functions she had. She speaks openly about her work, which is extraordinary and she lifts a tip of the veil about who The Queen really is.  It is n

Love and Marriage In the summer of 1195 a marriage between Louis and Eleanor of Brittany, a niece of King Richard I of England was suggested to make an alliance between Philip II and Richard. But this plan failed which led to a sudden deterioration in the relations between Richard and Philip. On 23 May 1200 at the age of 12!, Louis was married to Blanche of Castile, daughter of King Alfonso VIII of Castile and Eleanor of England, the sister of King Richard I of England. England In 1215, the English barons rebelled against King John of England during the First Baron's War. The barons offered the throne to Prince Louis, who landed on the Isle of Thanet in Kent, England at the head of an army.
